Hit the ground running with HIPS!

High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is an easy, low cost, and widely used 3D printing filament. HIPS comes in a wide range of colors and because it's so easy to print with it is highly recommended for beginners. HIPS 3D printer filament has similar mechanical properties to ABS in that it is relatively strong, somewhat flexible, and can be sanded. However, unlike ABS, HIPS has little tendency to warp while printing and is ideal for painting making it popular for use with costumes, models, and miniature figurines. Additionally, HIPS' low cost makes it an appealing material for rapid prototyping, early testing of modeled objects, and educational settings.

HIPS also performs well as a support material since it can be dissolved in a natural solvent called D-limonene. This means with a dual extruder-equipped 3D printer, HIPS can be used to support objects with interior cavities, intricate sections, overhanging portions, etc.
